SOME OPINIONS ON A VARIETY OF SUBJECTS
All of the charges against him were documented and agreed on by the most
important members of the Vatican who forbade him to have any contact
with the public. He was officially banned from the Church. Professor Gemelli called
him "arrogant, a psychopath, a self-wounding man." Padre
Pio's capacities for making enormous amounts of money reached such a
level that he was nicknamed "money-machine maker." This convinced
Vatican banks that Padre Pio was truly a great saint.
In 1933, however, the Vatican granted him permission to return to the
church. The accusations against him were never formally retracted so he died as an
impostor and could not be declared a saint. But thanks to hundreds of
billions of lira, Padre Pio was declared the last saint of the
twentieth century who, even after his death, is still performing
miracles under ambiguous circumstances.
